Loved And Lost, which producer/director Chris Flynn started writing back in the spring of 2006, is a coming-of-age love story that defies the conventional methods of that genre; a small, independent film with an mainstream motion picture feel to it. Flynn wanted to do a love story that felt realistic, and so he went with a film that follows along the same notions as most love stories, but then turns to that realism in the climax.
Loved And Lost follows two characters, Jett Foley and Hope Sweeney, who meet in high school. Jett develops a crush on Hope, despite their different backgrounds, but she doesn't believe that anything could happen between them. Jett, in effect, learns to deal with that reality. This is where the story departs from the conventional.
Flynn knew that this particular film would be heartbreaking, but it was something he wanted to show on-screen, while at the same time giving a small glimmer of potential hope at the end. "Being in love with someone who doesn't return those feelings is something that everyone can relate to. I have certainly been in that situation many times before. And I wanted to do a love story that defies the typical storytelling device of boy meets girl, boy falls in love, boy loses girl, then wins her back."
